Surface Finishes

Back

We have a variety of on-site finishing processes which offer the final surface treatment for your castings.  Additionally, we can offer an enhanced range of surface finishes through our trusted supply partners.

Linishing & Fettling

These are the first processes usually performed on raw investment cast components.  Fettling removes the risers and excess material, while linishing grinds or sands the surface to remove surface irregularities such as feed points.

Shotblasting

Used to create a uniform surface finish by removing surface burrs or debris remaining from the casting process.

Pickling & Passivation

Pickling and passivating are important processes in casting that act to protect the surface of the cast part from corrosion.  The pickling process removes any impurities or contaminants from the surface of the casting, while the passivatation process creates a protective layer on the surface that prevents further corrosion.

Painting & Coating

Castings can be finished in accordance with customer specifications with wet paint or powder coating being the most common requirement.  The choice of surface treatment is largely dependent on whether aesthetics, durability or resistance to abrasion or corrosion is the primary objective.
